This bear has a story.
June 24, 2005 It was at my Grandparent's house in the field about two steps from the front yard when we first spotted it. Now, my Grandparent's have a huge yard and two entrances to the driveway. I was on one end of the yard talking to some realatives next to their truck and my daughter who was 3 1/2 at the time was on the other side I thought heading toward the house. Now she was at least a soccer field and a half away from me, but I could still see her. It was at this moment I see the Black Bear in the field about half a soccer field away from my child. It was what seemed like a second later Tink left the steps and headed, what looked to be in the direction of the bear. I'm panicking thinking she sees it and is going to try to go out to pet it. (Think movies with friendly bear)I think she is going to get eaten. So, in my panick I'm running toward her screaming my head off at her to get back to me or to get in the house (this is also in the direction of the bear). The bear turned, looked at me and took a step toward me. I slowed down real quick and he just stopped and looked at me. Thank god about this time I realized Tink had not seen the bear and was just heading around the corner of the house in search of a cat. I got closer to her and my Cousin who was there also was heading after her got her and took her in the house and then we gathered under the tree next to the house to watch the bear, who must have thought we were crazy and was leaving. I realized I'd had my camera around my kneck the entire time and since Tink was safe, I just had to take a few pictures. I wish they would have turned out better, but it was in the evening and in my nervous haste I didn't have the camera settings right on top of being zoomed out into the digital zoom.
